LandOn by Tatto KL: Underground Bar Beneath Wisma Central

LandOn by Tatto is one of Kuala Lumpur’s better kept late-night spots, sitting quietly in the basement of Wisma Central on Jalan Ampang.

Tucked beneath the familiar façades of Jalan Ampang, just a short walk from the towers of modern KL, LandOn by Tatto feels like a secret waiting patiently for discovery. The old-fashioned frontage of Wisma Central gives no hint of what lies below. Inside, the room runs low and warm, with timber surfaces, soft lighting and tables that fill steadily from early evening.

LandOn by Tatto is not a late-night party bar. The crowd comes to drink well and talk, and the room is set up for exactly that.

Hidden Underground Bar at Wisma Central

Wisma Central carries its own quiet history. Built decades ago, the building witnessed the ebb and flow of shops, offices and casual city life long before the rapid modernisation of Kuala Lumpur. Today its modest façade hides a bar that rewards those who enjoy uncovering subtle, meaningful spaces.

The basement setting keeps the noise of Jalan Ampang completely out. Tables carved from KL trees and bar shelves made from repurposed durian wood shape a room filled with warmth and character. Every detail contributes to a sense of grounded comfort, a reminder that this retreat is rooted in a living history.

Vibes and Music at LandOn by Tatto

As night falls, the atmosphere unfolds gradually. Early hours carry relaxed R&B and soft nostalgic tunes that make conversation flow with ease. Later in the evening, the soundtrack leans into soul and funk. It is a shift that adds warmth and energy without overwhelming the room. There are no private sections. Everyone shares the same soft glow and ambient hum, creating a communal atmosphere that feels open and welcoming.

Occasional live sets and themed nights keep the experience fresh. Yet the core mood remains the same. The room stays consistent through the night, unhurried and well-paced.

Signature Cocktails & Food Menu

Behind the bar, the mixologist draws on nearly twenty years of experience from respected KL establishments, shaping drinks with intuition and a quiet sense of artistry. Each creation is guided by mood, gentle emotion and the balance between local flavours and refined technique.

House made syrups infused with pandan and nangka root the menu in familiar Malaysian notes, but it is the Madagasia that captures the spirit of the bar. This favourite blends gin with cinnamon and pink peppercorn, creating a soft spice that settles warmly on the palate. It is elegant, layered and memorable, the kind of drink that invites you to pause for a moment before the next sip.

Other signatures such as Magenta Blitz and Whispering Jade offer their own character, and the list evolves every few months to keep the experience fresh. Thoughtful non alcoholic options, including zero proof creations and non alcoholic beers, ensure that everyone finds something crafted with care.

We were served a selection of finger food during the launch night, each one simple, warm and easy to enjoy. The highlight was a pasta inspired by a recipe from the now closed Tatto, carrying the same depth and balance that once made the restaurant a quiet favourite in KL. It was rich without being heavy, comforting without fuss, and it became one of the most memorable bites of the evening.

Landon by Tatto does not have a cover charge, there is no queue on most nights, and the bar staff know what they are doing. In a city where late-night options tend toward the loud and overpriced, it sits in a different category entirely.
